Progress from the basics of Kanban where you learnt how to design a single system in the Kanban System Design programme. The next step on your journey is to learn how to scale out to multiple connected systems. In the Kanban Systems Improvement programme, you will learn how to manage and optimise those systems using metrics and evolutionary change.

In any workflow system, there will be sources of delay, variability, and bottlenecks. Learn to proactively discover these challenges and then apply techniques to improve or smooth the flow of work.

Key Takeaways

At the end of this programme, you will be able to:
  • Understand the basics, motivation and benefits of evolutionary change
  • Scale out your system in multiple directions – upstream, downstream, connected to other systems
  • Learn how to run the Kanban cadences to manage and scale your system across your organisation
  • Understand the sources of delays, variability and what you can do to effectively manage them
  • Identify bottlenecks in a workflow and take actions to improve flow and reduce time to deliver or time to discover
  • Learn how to utilise key metrics such as Lead Time, Run Charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams to guide your continuous improvement using evolutionary change

Who Should Attend

Please refer to the job roles section.

You are expected to have read “Kanban” by David J Anderson or “Kanban from the Inside” by Mike Burrows. Prior attendance in the Kanban System Design programme is strongly recommended.

Programme Structure

This programme will cover the following topics:

  • Evolutionary Change
  • Scaling Kanban
  • Using Kanban Cadences to Scale Kanban Across Your Organisation
  • Managing Sources of Delays and Variability
  • Identifying and Resolving Bottlenecks in Workflows
  • Using Flow Metrics to Guide Continuous Improvement Using Evolutionary Change

You will receive a certificate of completion for the Kanban Systems Improvement programme. Students completing this programme and the Kanban System Design programme will receive the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential.

This programme is complimentary.

This programme is specifically for GovTech Officers only. Please click on the Register button to enrol via Workday.

The activities helped us absorb the content more effectively and quickly relate case studies to our own work, allowing us to ask questions and apply what we learnt to real-life scenarios.

The workshop practices and case study examples greatly reinforced our learning.

Learning how to use the Kanban method to continuously improve our work processes and service delivery has been useful.
